Ursprungalm Walk - Spring of Senses
snadné Baby carriage routes · Schladming
Around the 1.4 km long walk you will find information about the legendary mining history of Ursprungalm and the Giglachseen Lakes. Moreover there are Informations about the shooting of a "Heidi" movie in 1988 (starring Charlie Sheen as one of the main characters) and about the geologic features of the chalk stone of the Steirischer & Lungauer Kalkspitze mountains. After the short walk the Ursprungalm chalet invites for a rest.
The trail starts at Ursprungalm chalet and you first head towards West to the small brook, which is the Preuneggbach. You follow the trail through the cirque. About half-way, ambitiours mountaineers turn-off right towards Brotrinnl and Steirische Kalkspitze (5-6 hour tour, difficult hike), while you keep walking along the edge of the cirque below the impressive face of the Steirische Kalkspitze. The trail takes you back to your starting point at Ursprungalm in a total walking time of about 35 minutes.
Alternatively you can drive into Preuneggtal valley from Schladming via Rohrmoos. From Schladming you take provincial highway L722 through Rohrmoos and after about 6 kms you turn off right into Hohenbergstraße road. This road will also take you to Strickbrücke road. From here follow the directions as described above.

Changes in weather patterns, quick falls in temperature, thunderstorms, wind, fog and snow are some of the dangers that can be encountered on a hiking tour. Hosts of alpine huts and mountain refuges have a lot of experience in the mountains and can give good advice about weather and the trails. Poor equipment, overestimation of one's own capabilities, carelessness, poor personal constitution and/or wrong judgement can lead to critical situations. In case of thunderstorms: avoid summits, ridges and steel ropes.
GPS data and orienteering
Available GPS data - just like hiking maps - is only a guidance for orientation and can never depict a trail exactly with all its details. Especially at dangerous spots it is essential to judge on site how to proceed.
