Bike & Hike Wörschachklamm - Oberkogler Alm

The Wörschachklamm gorge is closed over the winter from October 30th to April 30th.

It is not possible to bypass the gorge itself.

Tour description

This relaxed Bike & Hike tour leads from Irdning along cycle paths and quiet roads to the Wörschach Gorge – an impressive natural gem. From there, the hike continues to the Oberkogler Alm and further towards the Wolkenstein castle ruins.

The tour can optionally be combined with the signposted Spechtensee Loop (315).

Note: Please check the opening hours of the Wörschach Gorge (May to October).

Start opposite the Irdning tourist information office and first ride north to the Enns Cycle Path R7. Follow it along the Enns towards Liezen. After the airfield, turn left and continue via Maitschern to Wörschach.

In the center of Wörschach, follow the signs towards Wörschach Gorge and turn left. At the entrance you will find the Bike & Hike station – the starting point for the hike.

The hike leads through the Wörschach Gorge. At the exit, keep right and follow trail no.4 to the Oberkogler Alm. The return route goes via Wörschachberg and further to the Wolkenstein castle ruins back to the starting point.

For the return by bike, first follow the same route back to Maitschern. Then continue to the Enns Cycle Path and switch back onto the cycle path. At the junction towards Hohenberg, turn left and ride uphill past Lake Putterersee. Here, a short detour to the Eichschacherl Trail is possible – an easy and playful trail, also ideal for beginners. Afterwards continue to Schlattham and back to Irdning.

Turn off the B320 at Trautenfels or Wörschach and follow the signs towards the Irdning town center.

A free parking area is located directly opposite the starting point at the tourism office.

With the bus 940/941 to the busstop ,,Busbahnhof Irdning''. There is also the start point.

The next trainstation is far away 5 kilometres.

Stay Safe on Your Bike & Hike
Weather conditions in the mountains can change quickly. Thunderstorms, wind, fog and sudden temperature drops are serious hazards. Plan your tour realistically and don’t overestimate your abilities.

In case of thunderstorms: Avoid summits, ridgelines and isolated trees.

Emergency numbers:

Recommended equipment:
Helmet, suitable bike and hiking clothing, sturdy shoes, sufficient water.
Always lock your bike.

There are E-bike charging stations along the route (see map/elevation profile) – bring your charger.

For via ferrata routes: Via ferrata set, helmet, appropriate footwear.

Visit the Wörschach Gorge: Plan enough time for the hike through the wild and romantic Wörschach Gorge – it is one of the most beautiful nature experiences in the region. Please check the opening hours (usually early May to the end of October).
Combine the tour: The Bike & Hike tour can be perfectly combined with the signposted Spechtensee Loop (315).
Trail detour: At Lake Putterersee it is worth making a short detour to the Eichschacherl Trail, an easy mountain bike trail for families and beginners.

Information about the Wörschach Gorge:
The Wörschach Gorge is open daily from 08:00 to 18:00 from early May until October 31.
