Tour description

A good combination of hiking and cooling off for warm summer days, but also a nice walk at any other time of year. The hike takes you along the Enns River to Hohenberg and from there to Putterersee, the popular swimming lake in Aigen im Ennstal. The lake has excellent water quality. After swimming in the lake, continue around the Kulm and hike back to Stainach.

Map, elevation profile & further information

Leave Stainach-Irdning train station at its south exit and head left/east, where you turn right at the intersection onto Sallaberger Straße. Follow this road through the underpass of the main road and turn right to the Sallaberger Enns Bridge. Immediately after the bridge, turn left along the Ennsweg. Soon, directly after a bridge over a ditch, you'll reach Kulm Circular Trail No. 7, which you'll now follow up to Hohenberg with its beautiful little church. Passing the church on the right, follow Trail No. 7 until a sharp left turn, where you then turn right onto Trail No. 1 down towards Putterersee. Once you've reached the bottom, head south at the intersection toward the center of Aigen. Over the small hill of Sallaberg am See, you'll reach the elementary school and immediately afterward, turn right and follow the Seegraben to the lake. Turn left across the parking lot to reach the entrance to the lakeside resort.

After a pleasant time at the lake, return to the Seegraben and walk right around the lake to the campsite. There you'll reach the road and turn left out of Aigen towards Schlattham. Briefly along the main road past the shrine, turn right immediately afterward toward Sallaberg am Kulm. You'll hike along the road and enjoy magnificent views of the Grimming Mountains and the Irdninger Moos. From Sallaberg am Kulm, you'll finally descend to the Sallaberg Enns Bridge and from there back to Stainach.
A small backpack is helpful so you can bring a snack and a drink. Don't forget your swimsuit. A good jacket and pants are essential. Good, waterproof shoes, sunglasses, and sunscreen are also essential, as is a small first aid kit.
