The hospitality team The yellow angels in Schladming-Dachstein

Yellow stands for the sun and as a symbol of friendliness and warmth. Yellow also stands for the cordiality team. A yellow anorak with a green heart, a bag made of grey loden and a bright green cap: this is how the almost 100 members presented themselves at their very first mission during the 2013 World Ski Championships. In this blog, you can find out more about the vision and tasks of the association:

It all began shortly before the 2013 World Ski Championships...

...tells us Wilma Weikl-Trinker, who was involved from the very beginning and worked as the association's chairwoman until a few months ago. Kurt Pfleger, then chairman of the tourism association, came back from the Special Olympics in Canada full of enthusiasm. There he was impressed by the "Mountys", local pensioners who supported the volunteers. He dreamed of having a similar team at the World Ski Championships in Schladming, who would welcome guests with their warmth and local knowledge.

Together with representatives from tourism and the local community, this vision finally became a reality. Numerous volunteers from the entire region were quickly found who were willing to act as "outdoor receptionists for the region". From schoolchildren to pensioners, a total of around 100 locals were on duty as a hospitality team during the gold, silver and bronze medal competitions in Schladming to help visitors with their requests.

Operations with heart and passion:

The 2013 World Ski Championships were a complete success for the "Herzlichkeitsteam" and so they decided to extend their collaboration in 2014 and found the "Herzlichkeitsteam" association.

The association's activities primarily include welcoming and looking after guests in the region, promoting the spirit of tourism across the region and supporting various events such as the Nightrace, the Special Olympics and Mid EUROPE. For example, the hospitality team was recently involved in the mountain rescue fan hike.

"Whenever the team meets and I see all the yellow warmth, I still get goosebumps..."

A change at the top

After a decade of commitment, Wilma Weikl-Trinker recently handed over the office to Susi Szalay. In these past years, Wilma was able to collect some moving moments as chairwoman. Some of her most memorable experiences include marching across the main square in Schladming for the first time in full team clothing at the opening of the 2013 World Ski Championships.

It is associations like these that play a key role in making guests feel at home in our region when they are welcomed in this open and warm way. Have you already experienced the hospitality team at a local event?
