Long-Distance Hiking in Schladming-Dachstein - an unforgettable mountain experience

If you want to take in the scenery over the course of several days, long-distance trails such as the Dachstein Circuit or the Schladminger Tauern High Trail offer ideal conditions to do just that. Each stage brings an array of new impressions, from sweeping alpine vistas to relaxed evenings at mountain huts. The trails are clearly marked, varied, and offer something for intrepid mountaineers as well as those who simply want to relish every moment to the fullest.

A key stage on three major long-distance trails

Thanks to its location, the Schladming-Dachstein region plays a central role on three major long-distance routes. The Styrian trail From Glacier to Wine begins on the Dachstein Glacier. The northern route covers 524 kilometers (35 stages) to Bad Radkersburg in the Thermenland region, while the southern route runs 370 kilometers (25 stages) to Leibnitz in the South Styria Nature Park. The 37-kilometer Dachstein Sun Circuit consists of three day-hikes that explore the sunnier side of Styria’s highest mountain. For a more relaxed hiking experience at lower elevations between 700 and 1,300 meters, the Panorama Trail 100 promises pure enjoyment. This 117-kilometer loop is divided into three stages north of the Enns and four to the south, extending from Mandling in the west to Öblarn in the east.

Hiking at its very best - the Schladminger Tauern High Trail

The Schladminger Tauern High Trail is one of Austria’s most famous multi-day hikes. In as many as seven stages, you will cross high-alpine terrain, pass clear mountain lakes, and follow ridgelines with views extending to the horizon and beyond. Among the many highlights along the route are the Giglach Lakes, the ice-age landscape of the Klafferkessel, and the towering Hochgolling (2,863 meters, the highest peak in the Niedere Tauern range). The trail has been awarded the Austrian Hiking Seal of Quality and promises an unforgettable nature adventure for experienced mountain hikers.
