The Dachstein - an unforgettable glacier experience

At the highest point in Styria, a truly unique natural experience awaits: Dachstein Glacier, with sweeping views across the Alps extending all the way to the Czech Republic and Slovenia.

Whether the Sky Walk, the Dachstein suspension footbridge, or the “Stairway to Nothingness”, the area around the modern Dachstein mountain station offers plenty to explore. One of the standout features is the new Dachstein Sky Ladder: 12 steps lead up to a glass platform with a spectacular view of the Dachstein. It’s a thrill for kids and adults alike. If you want to discover even more, the Ice Palace invites you to marvel at the intricate ice sculptures and step into a surreal world of ice and snow.

Culinary Highlights with a View

Right inside the mountain station of the Dachstein Glacier cable car, the brand-new glacier restaurant opens out onto a breathtaking 280-degree panorama, with a spacious terrace at an elevation of 2,700 meters. With around 220 seats, it offers plenty of room for guests - whether you’re stopping in for a relaxed break or looking for something a little more memorable above the clouds. Natural materials like loden, stone, and wood create a warm, inviting atmosphere that fits seamlessly into the high-alpine surroundings. The location itself, with its sweeping vistas of the Dachstein massif and the surrounding Alps, is impressive enough in its own right - but there’s one detail that sets it apart: the provincial border between Styria and Upper Austria runs straight through the restaurant. The Dachstein glacier restaurant proudly displays the “Kulinarium Steiermark” quality seal, standing for authentic cuisine, regional sourcing, and quality second to none.
