Beautiful for iris bloom

The Trautenfels nature reserves are undoubtedly among the most beautiful meadows in Styria. The litter meadows southwest of the castle are home to the most compact iris stands in the Eastern Alps. In May/June, up to one million iris flowers bloom there, along with thousands and thousands of daffodils. In order to preserve or improve the habitats for birds, amphibians and insects, the following project was implemented by the Naturschutzbund Steiermark in cooperation with neighboring farmers as cultivators, the LFZ Raumberg-Gumpenstein and Trautenfels Castle:

- Construction of a platform for amphibian observation.
- Construction of an observation tower
- Extension of an existing barn to an information point

The Trautenfels nature reserves can be visited at any time. The best time to visit is during the iris blossom period from mid-May to mid-June.
