River hiking

Explore the Enns by "river hiking".

The Enns between the Salzburg town of Mandling and the Styrian Gesäuse is a unique and breathtaking landscape. The river is an insider tip for adventurers and outdoor freaks to enjoy nature intensively. Starting this summer, the 90 kilometre route can also be experienced as part of a new "river hike". Participants complete the tour over several days in five stages - paddling by dinghy or kayak. Numerous entrances and exits allow impressive sightseeing off the beaten track. The organisers help with planning and offer the complete equipment for hire as well as trained guides and a shuttle service.

The 5 stages

Mandling - Schladming, 10km

The Enns is still young in this area and is rated as whitewater 2+ in medium water. At low tide there can be difficulties of a more technical nature, for example stones have to be avoided and at high water levels the Enns becomes rather fast and powerful.

Schladming - Aich, 11 km
On this stage, the Enns is still to be judged as a small alpine hiking river with a brisk current and in the case of medium water with white water 1. At low water levels, attention must be paid to stones and wooden piles in the course of the river. At higher water levels, branches and trees hanging into the river from the bank must be avoided.

Aich - stone, 11 km
On this stage the Enns carries more water due to the many small tributaries from the mountain valleys and is rated as tidal water 2 to 3 with short whitewater 1 passages. Attention must be paid to obstacles in the water and to branches and trees hanging from the shore.

Stein - Wörschach, 22 km
On this stage the Enns has already grown into a medium-sized river. Tame water 2 to 3 awaits you. There are hardly any obstacles in the middle of the river. Nevertheless, you should remain attentive, as every river changes constantly.

Wörschach - Admont, 27 km
On this longest stage of the whole tour you can expect running water of level 1-2 up to Admont. Tour riders of all skill levels will get their money's worth here. Choose from three different lengths, each with one exit after 21 km, 28 km or 35 km.
