Starry skies in the Sölktäler Nature Park

Nature Park Sölktäler

Unobstructed starlight

In Europe, most areas are already affected by more intense light pollution. Due to the many artificial light sources, there is no longer any darkness at night.

This has negative effects on nature, but also on us humans. Also in terms of environmental protection and energy saving, "lighting up the night sky" does not make sense.

Only a few areas are still dark enough at night to make out the Milky Way. And one area in Europe has the absolute continental minimum of light pollution. The Sölktäler Nature Park lies in this darkest cell in Europe. The unimpaired night sky is considered a special protected asset here and is protected.
