Wycieczka
If you want to experience the wild expanse of the Dachstein massif in winter, you should consider this ski tour. The crossing is more than 20 kilometers long and leads from the Schladming Glacier over the "Am Stein" plateau through the historically significant Notgasse to the Öfen near Gröbming. Good route planning and a sense of direction are essential here.

Incidentally, the name is not derived from being in a difficult situation ("Not" means "distress"), but from 'Hnod' - the Celtic term for 'sacred fire'.
Opis drogi
Descent from the mountain station via the Schladming glacier below the disused Mitterstein chairlift (beautiful north-facing slopes) to the old valley station. From there, head eastwards through the hilly terrain (the Stoderzinken is the dominant signpost, the route is only partially marked with poles) - depending on the conditions, this is also possible without skins. You pass the dilapidated Lackenmoosalm and the unmanaged Schildenwangalm. Here you cross the impressive Notgasse with its historic rock paintings. If there is not enough snow or the conditions do not allow you to walk along the Notgasse, you can also bypass the gorge via a forest path. Below the Notgasse, follow the easy forest road to the rockfalls of the ovens near Gröbming. Here it is best to be picked up by a taxi if you have not parked a second vehicle beforehand.

In fresh snow or poor visibility, orientation is very difficult; if in doubt, a local mountain and ski guide should be consulted.

Another option
It is possible to take the Lackner Miesberg (2,232 m) as a summit. Skins are of course necessary here, so please allow for the additional time required.

Equipment
  • Clothing and protective equipment: Make sure you are prepared for rapid changes in the weather and increased UV exposure in high alpine terrain. A wind and water-repellent jacket, hood and moisture-resistant gloves are essential. Sun protection (eyes, skin and lips) is also very important.
  • Safety equipment: A modern avalanche transceiver, a metal avalanche shovel and a probe are part of the basic equipment for every ski tour and freeride descent that takes you off the secured slopes and into the open ski area. This triumvirate of avalanche transceiver/shovel/probe not only helps you to be found quickly in the event of an avalanche burial, but above all to be able to help any companions or other buried victims quickly.
  • The smartphone is with you anyway. We generally recommend installing a GPS app and familiarizing yourself with how to use it. Network coverage is generally good on the Dachstein. A small first aid kit with a multitool should also always be carried.
  • For many tours, it is advisable to carry a glacier harness and via ferrata set, crampons, ice axe and a short rope so that you can react quickly to snow conditions. The exact equipment for each tour can be found in the individual route descriptions.
