Variant:
A somewhat longer (approx. +45 min.) variant of the tour is possible via Ahornweg road, the forestry lane Royer Ötz and the Schlapfer farm.
Walk along the sidewalk for about 300 meters to Hochwurzen, turn left and walk towards Obertal via Schussbühel and the meadows of Rohmooser Frei. Walking to the South the scenery transforms into that of an extensive alp.
While you walk towards Obertal valley you can enjoy the nice views to both, Untertal and Obertal valleys. At the Sonnleitner farm you reach the road junction Rohrmoos-Südweg road/Knappenweg road. You hike up the latter until you reach the Pocher farm. Hiking up over the meadow you reach the viewpoint of "Johannahöhe", which offers a great view to Obertal valley and towards the village Untertal.
After a short section through the forest you reach the beginning of the Mushroom Nature trail. Along the forestry road (to the right) you hike back down to Rohrmoos in about 25 minutes.

Changes in weather patterns, quick falls in temperature, thunderstorms, wind, fog and snow are some of the dangers that can be encountered on a hiking tour. Hosts of alpine huts and mountain refuges have a lot of experience in the mountains and can give good advice about weather and the trails. Poor equipment, overestimation of one's own capabilities, carelessness, poor personal constitution and/or wrong judgement can lead to critical situations. In case of thunderstorms: avoid summits, ridges and steel ropes.
GPS data and orienteering
Available GPS data - just like hiking maps - is only a guidance for orientation and can never depict a trail exactly with all its details. Especially at dangerous spots it is essential to judge on site how to proceed.
