The Dachstein

At an altitude of 2,700 metres, Styria's highest mountain impresses with its fabulous natural backdrop and panoramic views over Austria's mountain peaks to the Czech Republic and Slovenia.

Attractions such as the Dachstein Suspension Bridge, the Sky Walk, the Ice Palast or the Stairway to Nothingness make your unforgettable mountain experience even more exciting. Here, breathtaking moments are just as guaranteed as a thrill with a view.

The ascent with the Dachstein Glacier Railway, including the gondola balcony, is an experience in itself. Ski touring, freeride and cross-country skiing over Austria's mountains, with views as far as the Slovenian Triglav Mountains - this is possible from autumn to late spring at the Dachstein.

Cross-Country Skiing

The world's longest network of glacier cross-country trails stretches out against an incomparable mountain backdrop at an altitude of 2700 metres.

From July to November the world's elite has the opportunity to enjoy ideal preparations for upcoming competitions  on 18 kilometres of diagonal and skating trails.

Here are the foundations for medals laid.

In particular in autumn as many as 500 athletes from over 25 nations go to the superbly groomed cross-country trails of the Schladming and Hallstatt glacier every day.

Austria´s National Ski Tour awaits you!

The Dachstein crossing - "Austria's National Ski Tour" - is considered one of the most beautiful ski tours in the Alps.

It starts at an altitude of almost 2700 metres on the Styrian side of the border and ends in Obertraun in the federal state of Upper Austria. A shuttle service will transport you back to Ramsau (registration for bus required: +43 3687 22042 800).

The "Panorama Tour" is an ideal day trip: simply park at the car park next to the Rittisberg and take the bus to the Dachstein valley station. You can ski on the glacier and use the Adler lifts. Then back to Ramsau you go via a ski trail.

On the "Extreme Tour" you travel with a guide from the Dachstein glacier to the Guttenberghaus and see winter at its beguiling best.

The "Powder Tour", also with a guide, takes you down one of the best-known runs in the Dachstein area: the Edelgrieß run.

You'll enjoy fine powder, steep descents and a supreme skiing experience .
